Chapters: Matthew 11–12
In Matthew 11–12, public response to Jesus becomes more complex. John the Baptist, now imprisoned, sends messengers asking whether Jesus is the expected Messiah. Jesus responds by pointing to His works as evidence. The chapters include reflections on unrepentant cities, the invitation 'Come to me, all who are weary,' and several disputes regarding Sabbath observance. Religious leaders increasingly challenge Jesus’ authority, including accusations that His power comes from demonic sources. These chapters highlight growing tension between Jesus and certain Pharisaic interpretations of the Law, while clarifying themes of mercy, rest, and the identity of the 'Son of Man.'
